Who Actually Runs a Baseball Team?

Ownership transition · Current snapshot
Kroenke Sports & Entertainment has entered into an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Angels from the Moreno family. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027, subject to customary closing conditions and Major League Baseball approval. Until closing, this page treats the announced sale as pending—not completed.
The Angels organization map
Think of the club as several connected operations rather than one roster. Responsibilities overlap, but this is the clearest high-level map.
1 · Ownership & governance
Current ownership → MLB approval process → incoming control
The Moreno family remains in place during the pending transaction. MLB’s ownership-review process and a vote of club owners must occur before control transfers to KSE.
2 · Club leadership
Club President Molly Jolly
The club president leads the broader organization. That side includes areas such as business operations, ticketing, partnerships, communications, broadcasting, community relations, and the ballpark experience. Individual departmental reporting lines are not assumed here unless the club publishes them.
3 · Baseball operations
Interim General Manager John Mozeliak
The Angels appointed Mozeliak as a baseball operations consultant serving as interim GM on June 26, 2026. The club said he would oversee day-to-day baseball operations, help refine strategy, and assist with the search for a permanent general manager.
What this group influences: the Major League roster, trades, free-agent signings, scouting, analytics, contracts, the Draft, international acquisition, and player development.
4 · Major League field staff
Manager Kurt Suzuki and the coaching staff
The manager and coaches turn organizational plans into daily preparation, instruction, game strategy, and player communication. The staff extends well beyond the most visible coaches to performance, athletic training, interpreting, equipment, and clubhouse roles.

5 · Major League roster
Active roster, 40-man roster, depth chart, and transactions
A roster is a changing piece of the organization—not the whole organization. Injuries, options, waivers, trades, and daily transactions can change who is available.
The player-development ladder
Players may move up, down, skip levels, rehabilitate at an affiliate, or remain at a level for a specific development goal. The order below is a map, not a guaranteed career path.

The Angels are also ushers, concession workers, security personnel, grounds crew members, clubhouse staff, ticket representatives, broadcasters, production crews, community-relations staff, and many others whose work shapes a fan’s day. Future People of the Big A profiles will recognize that work carefully and respectfully. Names, titles, and personal stories will be published only when they can be verified or shared with permission.
